Overview of Program
PHILOSOPHY
Every
Texan, regardless of age, is entitled to a basic education.
MISSION STATEMENT
The mission
of the Comal, Guadalupe and Kendall Counties Adult Education Program is
to ensure that all adults who live in Texas have the skills necessary to
function effectively in their personal and family lives, in the
workplace, and in the community.
GOALS &
OBJECTIVES
The goals and
objectives of the Comal, Guadalupe and Kendall Counties Adult Education
Cooperative are to create an educational climate which encourages the
development of independence, promotes unlimited potential, integrates
academic curriculum with current and emerging technologies, and inspires
life-long learning needed to meet today’s globally-competitive
standards.
Educational Services Provided:
The Adult Basic
Education program offers General Educational Development (GED), and
English as a Second Language (ESL) classes to eligible adults. Seguin
ISD, Fiscal Agent for the tri-county cooperative, offers classes within
the geographic boundaries of the eight school districts located within
the three counties.
Definition of Adult Educational Services:
Adult Basic and Adult Secondary Education Class
Enrollment in Adult
Basic and Adult Secondary Education classes will help adults obtain the
knowledge and skills necessary for employment and self-sufficiency,
assist adults who are parents to obtain the educational skills necessary
to help their children in their own education development, and assist
adults in the completion of a secondary school education by earning the
General Education Development (GED) certificate.
English as a Second Language (ESL) Class
Enrollment in an
English as a Second Language (ESL) class will help adults obtain
literacy skills (speak, read, or write the English language) to become
more employable, productive and responsible citizens, and assist adults
who are parents to obtain the educational skills necessary to help their
children through school. Citizenship guidance is integrated into the
ESL curriculum.
Student Eligibility:
Students are eligible to enroll in Adult
Basic Education and Adult Secondary Education classes if they function
below the 12th grade level, and are

18 years old and older
·
17 years old with parental permission and
permanent withdrawal forms from the last school attended in Texas.

16 years old with court-ordered
documentation
·
Lacking the basic skills to function in
today’s society
FUNDING
Adult Basic
Education (ABE) programs are funded by the Texas Education Agency as
authorized under Title II of the Workforce Investment Act of 1998, also
referred to as the Adult and Family Literacy Act, and the Texas
Education code, Chapter 29, Subchapter H, Section 251-257 along with the
Texas Administrative Code, State Board of Education Rule, Chapter 89,
Subchapter B.
Cost for classes
All
classes are free.
